ARCO MADRID 2025

For ARCOmadrid 2025, Galeria Leme presents works by Sandra Gamarra Heshiki, Luciano Figueiredo, and Gabriela Giroletti, exploring themes of landscape, materiality, and abstraction. Gamarra Heshiki, the first non-Spanish-born artist to represent Spain at the 60th Venice Biennale, presents paintings that question the Western gaze on nature. Her series Discovering what there was an interest in keeping secret replaces the act of unveiling with a poncho—an Andean textile that reveals the contradiction between admiration and exploitation of tropical landscapes.
Meanwhile, Figueiredo, a central figure of Brazil’s counterculture in the 1970s, challenges the conventions of concrete art. His Relief series expands the plane into three-dimensional structures, subverting the movement’s formal rigidity and inviting new spatial interpretations.
Giroletti, making her debut at the fair, explores the balance between abstraction and figuration. Her layered compositions merge oil, acrylic, and gel, creating surfaces where texture and gloss interact, generating a sense of depth that transforms materiality into a central element of the work.
